GOAL
To use the SSIMPLUS Viewer Score to help streaming services and content providers to improve video stream quality; supporting the development of real-time dashboards that convey important VX metrics to clientele.

-
To build capacity in conducting evidence-based VX research by identifying and shortlisting metrics that can be employed to assess VX in video streams
-
To understand how changes in perceptual video quality impact key VX metrics

The Reason Why
Research investigating the impact of perceptual video quality on viewer behavior is limited.
Process for qualitative analysis:
-
The metrics used to analyze the qualitative data include measuring for: frustration, satisfaction, cognitive load, abandonment rate, repeat viewership and any other themes that show up.
-
Transcribing all possible video data,
-
Using affinity mapping to divide all possible data by the questions that were initially posed
-
Using the questions as guides before further separating the data to be analyzed by theme
The key was to focus on the language to elucidate and elaborate on participant thoughts,
feelings, and next steps when encountering poor video quality. The 6 pre-study questions and 15 main study questions were used to collate quantitative data. 6 post study questions were used to collect qualitative data. Because of the sheer amount of data that needed to be analyzed, I analyzed each Edwin and I agreed it would be best to each take 3 questions. From the 3 questions that I took, there were 18 different themes.
The paper will be published through SAGE. Due to the paper awaiting publication, any information here will be written in broad strokes. Thus this entry will not include the manuscript, the study design, nor specifics on the study results.
Takeaways
-
Practicing and growing skills in user research, user interviews, and study design
-
Learn what it's like for user recruitment and the processes of going through the university ethics board
-
Contribute to the creation of study protocols, interview questions for pre and post study, host said study.
-
Able to collate qualitative and quantitative data, then was able to analyze the qualitative results to contribute to the creation of two papers (one centered around qualitative data, the other around the quantitative data).
