Building off of the previous project from Box Project 1 and working with the same team, this time, the aim of our project was to focus on solving the social issue of “how one could facilitate the organization of medication safely and accessibly".  How we went about this project was through adding on additional functions and further developing the prototype. Through iterating on the previous project, we were able to come up with a high fidelity app prototype that would be linked with the box as well as finalize some of the inner mechanisms that cause the physical pillbox prototype to work.

DESCRIPTION

Using the first iteration of the pillbox as a base, velcro was used to help demonstrate the connectivity between modular pillboxes, wire was used in order to further demonstrate the main body’s hangability, a pen’s clicker mechanism was used to bring the modular pillbox pop-out feature to life for easier user accessibility, and Adobe XD was used in order to render and demonstrate how the app would connect and function with the physical main body.

Summary
Description
Process

As for the app, some of the functions included are: being bluetooth/wifi connected to the main body, allowing the user to access their medication through unlocking the physical pillbox via app,  a calendar function, a note-taking function, a newsfeed function, a social function, an alert function that the user could customize to lock certain apps on their phone (or to lock their phone entirely) that would be unlocked when opening the corresponding day’s compartment on the main body, and a function that would allow users to choose whether or not they would like to  link their account to their medical record or another family/friend’s account for accountability

PROCESS

Due to using the first prototype as a base and already knowing how we would want to develop the prototype further as a group, we used the time for our second iteration to figure out how we would solve our social issue.  For the most part, most of the solution comes from linking the app with the pillbox. The reason for this solution is through the fact that the user would be able to access their medication through the app on their phone, thus enabling them to keep the medication out of the hands of curious children while safely regulating their own medication intake to prevent missing or overdosing.

In order to develop the high-fidelity for the app, a combination of pen and paper wireframing with Adobe XD was used.  In order to figure out what functions were needed, each of the group members referred back to previous research interviews.  The most interesting functions that we included based off of research, would have had to be the note function and history function.  The reason for this interest is due to the fact that: for the history function, it would allow users to refer back to older medication without having to bring their whole medicine cabinet.  As for the note-taking function, it would allow users to record any symptoms from their current prescriptions, thus enabling them an easier time to bring up past symptoms that could possibly require their doctor’s opinion, such as in case the user isn’t completely compatible with their medication.

Goal:

To facilitate the organization of medication safely and accessibly.

For the most part, unlike the first iteration where we had to start from scratch, this second iteration of the pillbox required more tinkering.  Throughout the month that was given for the project, it enabled us to further improve on various functions of the prototype. Thanks to some of the experience with working with the same groupmates previously, it was during this time that I found I could work quite more flexibly, lending a hand in whatever work my group mates needed help in.  It was also during this time that due to my flexibility to work wherever, I was able to better exercise my leadership capabilities. The reason for this statement is due to the fact that one of the major roadblocks for this project was time to be able to meet together. For some strange reason, due to work, classes, and commuter transportation, it was during this month, in particular, that none of our schedules seemed to line up.  In the end, thanks to facebook messenger serving as a progress log and one of my group members, Kelly, agreeing to stay the whole day with me in the lab in order to meet our two other group mates during the morning and evening (Gloria in the morning and Kat in the evening) we were able to complete the second iteration of the pillbox.  So overall, what I'm trying to say is that in order to be a leader, it's not just about making the calls for next steps, but rather about going out and being the first to do the work in order to get things rolling as well.
